An adult ticket to the Van Gogh Museum costs from €25 in the official ticket shop, for a timed slot. EU/EEA students pay from €16 and under-18s go in free. Book on tickets.vangoghmuseum.nl: the Tiqets entry ticket costs €27, and it was temporarily unavailable when we checked.

Prices were checked on 18–19 October 2026. Some details, including opening hours, were not on the official pages we could read. Where that is the case, we say so and name the source.

Use the official shop, not a lookalike

In 2024 DutchNews reported visitors buying tickets on a fake Van Gogh Museum shop. Check that the address is tickets.vangoghmuseum.nl, or use a reseller you know, before you pay.

Prices checked on 18 October 2026. They change often; check the final price before you pay.

We took these prices from the official checkout for the current Whistler exhibition. The museum’s main site says there is no separate exhibition fee, so this is the general ticket price. The checkout shows the adult and student prices as “from”, so they may vary by date or time.

  • Adult: from €25.
  • Student (EU/EEA): from €16, with valid proof.
  • Under 18: free, but you still book a time slot.
  • Free with a card: Museumkaart, ICOM, Stadspas, Vereniging Rembrandt, and companion tickets.

How far ahead should you book?

The museum sells timed slots, and third-party guides and resellers say tickets are sold online only. We could not read the museum’s own FAQ to confirm this. The official site also doesn’t say how quickly tickets sell out. Third parties say slots can go “days or even weeks” ahead, with the peak season from March to October.

Our advice: book as soon as your travel dates are fixed, especially for a weekend.

The Tiqets entry ticket costs €27, €2 more than the official ticket, and it was marked “temporarily unavailable” on our check date. The guided tour from €69 lasts about two hours.

We don’t know which resellers the museum itself authorises: its list was not confirmed on the official site. Third parties name Tiqets, GetYourGuide, Tours & Tickets, Musement and Klook. We could not verify GetYourGuide and Viator prices in euros, so we don’t show them. Some reseller products are guided tours without entry, so read what is included before you book.

Which ticket should you buy?

  • Most visitors: the official adult ticket from €25, booked as early as you can.
  • Students from the EU/EEA: the official student ticket from €16. Bring proof.
  • Families: children under 18 go in free, but add them to the booking.
  • You want a guide: the Tiqets guided tour from €69, about two hours.
  • Official slots gone: check resellers, but confirm the product includes museum entry.

Pros

  • Official ticket is the cheapest option
  • Under-18s go in free
  • Free with the Museumkaart
  • In the Museum Quarter, with the Rijksmuseum

Cons

  • Timed slots sell out in peak season, per third parties
  • Opening hours not confirmed on the official pages we checked
  • Not included in the I amsterdam City Card, per third parties
  • Fake ticket sites have targeted visitors

Opening hours and visit length

We could not confirm the opening hours on the official site. The third-party guide Amsterdam Explorer lists these hours for 2026:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00–17:00
  • Friday: 9:00–21:00
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9:00–18:00

Treat them as a guide and check the time slots in the official ticket shop for your date. Tiqets says a visit takes about 90 minutes. That is the reseller’s estimate, not the museum’s.

Van Gogh Museum and the I amsterdam City Card

Third-party sources say the I amsterdam City Card does not include the Van Gogh Museum. We could not confirm this on the official I amsterdam site, but plan as if you will pay for the ticket separately. The card does include the Rijksmuseum, also in the Museum Quarter.

What we could and could not confirm

We try to show official facts only, and the Van Gogh Museum’s FAQ could not be read on our check date. Here is where each fact in this guide comes from:

Fact Source
Adult from €25, student from €16, under 18 free Official ticket shop
No separate fee for the Whistler exhibition Official main site
Tickets online only, timed slot Third-party guides and resellers
Sell-out lead time of days or weeks Third parties
Opening hours Third party (Amsterdam Explorer)
Visit takes about 90 minutes Tiqets
Not in the I amsterdam City Card Third parties

If you rely on one of the unconfirmed points, such as late opening on a Friday, check it in the official ticket shop when you choose your slot. We will update this guide when the museum’s own pages confirm them.

Tips for your visit

  • Pair it with the Rijksmuseum on the same morning or afternoon. Both use timed tickets, so leave about two hours between slots.
  • If you have a Museumkaart, book a free slot as soon as you know your date.
  • Vondelpark, in the same part of the city, is a good free break after the visit.
  • The Anne Frank House releases its tickets six weeks ahead and sells them only on its own website. See our Anne Frank House ticket guide.
